Case Study: Trauma as a result of being Restrained.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:17-18 NKJV
Often times we will find during inner healing that a person has behaviors, fears or even anxiety without realizing the root cause of all that is going on with them. The following in an account of a young woman who has been going through deliverance. She has already received physical healing and inner healing, but continued to have the following issues.
- Fear of going to the doctor.
- Distrust of men and fear of molestation.
She has no recollection of being molested or why she begins to tremble at the thought of a man getting near her.
After asking the Lord to reveal the root cause of these issues, the woman began to see herself as a weeping young teenager. She had been diagnosed with cancer and had been through several procedures. During one procedure, she had not gone to sleep just yet but had been placed in restraints. She was terrified. Another memory accompanied this one later in her teens. In this memory, she was with a boyfriend and they began to argue. When she tried to leave, he pinned her down and restrained her with his body.
There were some basic beliefs wrapped up in the memory that were problematic for her healing and freedom as follows:
Belief #1: God did not care because if He did, she would not have been sick and certainly would not have been restrained. (She asked to be healed. She still had to go through the medical procedures.
Belief #2: Her parents were selfish for putting her through all those procedures just so she could live. (This came in because she was told to suck it up and just go through with the procedures. She also hated all the pain the procedures caused and could not figure why a parent would do that knowing what the consequences were.)
Belief #3: There was fear of being restrained again. This broken part of her was certain she a doctor would restrain her and she would experience the pain all over again.
Belief #4: Jesus either would not or could not heal the pain of the memory.
Belief #5: No one loved her, she deserved to die. (This came in because of marital trouble with her parents. Dying was a solution.)
Belief #6: She was a burden and abandoned. (This lie came in from listening to adults talk about the costs and care of her.)
As long as she held on to lies about God and held on to unforgivness for God, her parents, and for the physicians who cared for her, the stronghold and brokenness remained and in the hidden places inside her, there was pain.
Solution:
1. We asked the Lord to release the truth. Since there was a such a belief that the Lord had forsaken her, we asked the Lord to show her where He was during the initial trauma. Response: The woman said that He was there standing back. She explained, “I did not want Him. He wanted to be near me but would not cross my will so He stood back watching.”
2. We asked the Lord to show her who she needed to forgive to take a spiritual sledge hammer to the foundation of the stronghold. After some time, the mourning little girl inside her agreed to forgive her dad but had a difficult time forgiving her mom. After prayer and some time, she did indeed forgive her mother.
3. A different perspective was offered because there were such horrific accusations against her parents. The questions was posed: “If Sheila, your niece, was very sick and you knew she could live. Would you want her to go through some painful medical procedures to live?” The answer was, “Yes.” To which we responded, “A parent has love and instincts for their child to live. Is it not reasonable that your parents would want to do everything possible for their child to live…even if it required walking through some hard places. Even you would want your niece to endure it. Is that selfish? Is it possible you believe wrongly about your parents?” This perspective and truth was enough to challenge the belief that her parents were selfish and did not care.
4. We asked the Lord to heal the memories of the restraints. As the woman processed it, she had a vivid memory view of the room she was in and all the details of the trauma. The woman said, “There’s no way to heal the fear and the trauma of the restraints.” I asked her if she would be willing to look at Jesus’ hands if He would hold them out to her. In a word of knowledge I felt like He was saying, “If you look at the evidence of my restraints, I will heal you. I was wounded for your transgressions, I was beaten for your healing. I was broken for your brokenness. And I was retrained by nails in my feet and hands for your restraints.” At this, the woman said she could see hands being held out to her. They were not bloody but they were healed. There were indeed scars there from what He had endured.
4. We commanded the spirits of fear of rejection and spirits of death to loose her.
Within moments, the woman smiled and said, “I can see the 13 year old me sitting in Jesus’ lap.” The tears were gone. The fear was gone. The root was removed. In His presence, she knew she loved and not a burden.
